Biden Signs Executive Order to Combat Climate Crisis

Biden Takes Bold Action on Climate Change with New Executive Order

President Orders Federal Agencies to Prioritize Climate Crisis in Decision-Making

Washington, D.C. — President Joe Biden has signed an executive order on climate change, directing federal agencies to prioritize the climate crisis in their decision-making and operations. The order, titled "Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad," sets ambitious goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, investing in clean energy, and protecting vulnerable communities from the impacts of climate change.

"The climate crisis is an existential threat to our planet and the American people," said President Biden. "This order will mobilize the full resources of the federal government to combat this crisis and protect future generations."

Key provisions of the executive order include:

  • Directing federal agencies to set science-based emissions reduction targets and to develop strategies for achieving them.
  • Investing in clean energy technologies and infrastructure, including renewable energy, energy efficiency, and clean transportation.
  • Protecting vulnerable communities from the impacts of climate change, such as rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and wildfires.
  • Joining the Paris Agreement and setting a target for the United States to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

The executive order also creates a new National Climate Task Force, which will be led by the President and coordinate the implementation of the order across federal agencies. The Task Force will be responsible for developing and implementing a national climate strategy, monitoring progress, and reporting to the President on the implementation of the order.

"This is a landmark moment in the fight against climate change," said Brenda Mallory, Chair of the Council on Environmental Quality. "This executive order sends a clear message that the United States is back in the fight against climate change, and that we are committed to leading the world in addressing this crisis."

The executive order has been praised by environmental groups, scientists, and world leaders. "President Biden's executive order is a bold and necessary step in the fight against climate change," said Michael Bloomberg, former Mayor of New York City and UN Special Envoy for Climate Action. "This order will help to create jobs, reduce pollution, and protect our planet for future generations."
